Subject:d&p scene design questions!
Time:12:46 pm
okay, so this community hasn't been updated since january but i figure i might as well give it a try.

i'll be a college freshman in the fall and i got accepted into the school of design and production for scene design. my name's leigh-ann. :) hello! anyway, i don't know if i'm going to ncsa for sure yet...it's between this and ithaca college. (and maybe savannah college of art and design.) so i have a few questions:

1. any study abroad offered at all? i was told there wasn't but i don't believe it.
2. um, what is the d&p school really like? am i always going to be working? (even on free days, like a sunday? you know, homework and all..) will i have any downtime?
3. how many shows are put on per semester?
4. do you feel trapped on campus? i got that feeling reading about it online.
5. are you disappointed that ncsa isn't a "college experience" school? does it suck?
6. if you've graduated and/or are going to graduate soon, do you feel like ncsa was worth it? have you been successful in your craft?
7. what's winston-salem like? i haven't visited yet...i probably should.
8. oh yeah, one more thing, is it true d&p kids get studio space in sophomore year? that's awesome!

it's such a good school but i don't know if it's going to be too intense. i like balance and i fear that it's too much of studying and designing and working and staying up late and stressing and worrying out of your mind and not enough fun or diversity.

thank you very much! i hope i hear from someone.

Subject:Kurt Cobain documentary to premier in Greensboro on Dec. 6th
Time:11:48 am
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

On Thursday, Dec. 6th at 9:30 p.m., The Movie Show and WUAG 103.1 will premier Kurt Cobain About a Son at the Carousel Luxury Cinemas on 1305 Battleground Ave.

Directed by A.J. Schnack, Kurt Cobain About a Son strips away the iconic facade of legendary Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain, and restores a part of his humanity unseen by the general public.

This movie is unlike any Rock and Roll documentary ever made. There are no interviews with celebrities or clips from TV appearances or music videos. The film simply allows Cobain to narrate his own life story via a series of never-before-heard interview tapes he recorded with journalist Mike Azzerad a year before the musician committed suicide on April 5, 1994.

While many people have had a chance to listen to Cobain's music, few have actually heard him speak, let alone for more than one hour straight. Accompanying the narration are a series of wonderfully photographed scenes and images from the places where Kurt grew up and performed his music in Aberdeen, Olympia and Seattle, Washington.

Seating for the premier is limited, and the event WILL sell out. Anyone who would like to attend is strongly urged to reserve their tickets immediately. To pre-order online, all you have to do is visit the Carousel's webpage, and click on the 9:30 p.m. link under "ABOUT A SON * PREMEIRE" [sic].

Subject:Free zombie movie and cheap beer - the perfect combination for a pre-Halloween shindig!

"When there's no room left in Hell, the dead will ROCK the earth!"

On Tuesday, October 30th, "The Movie Show," in conjunction with 2Art Chicks, presents the first event in its "BEER AND A MOVIE" film series. And to mark the holiday, we'll be kicking things off with the Japanese punk rock zombie film, Wild Zero. The movie stars Guitar Wolf, the Japanese punk rock band who Matador Records credits with the 'loudest CD in history.' The movie features zombies, exploding heads, and a motorcycle that shoots fire out of its exhaust pipe (!).

Here's a trailer:

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30th at 2Art Chicks off of Elm St. in Downtown Greensboro. We also plan to give away prizes and play a few nifty retro B-trailers before the film starts.

Well, as a junior I'm starting to crack down on this whole...college thing. The thing is, I'm considering NCSA for film, (Several also mention NYU, and USC?) ..but I honestly have no idea which schools to look into. How exactly does NCSA rank on the little lists of top colleges offering film? And setting aside prestige, how is the School of Filmmaking overall? For film direction?

Should I even consider film when I don't know the first thing about the process save for collaborative animations and a few years of theatre acting/design experience? How hard is it to get into?

Subject:RE: Ask David Lynch a question...
Time:03:43 pm
C'mon, I know you want to ask me a question....

Do you have a question for director David Lynch?

If you’ve actually seen one of this guy’s films, you are probably saying, “Who wouldn’t?”

Well, GoTriad! wants to give 17 people from the greater Triad area the chance to do just that. All you have to do is e-mail your question for Mr. Lynch to movieshowjoe@gmail.com .. After all the questions have been collected, I will hand-pick the top 17 queries, and forward them directly to Mr. Lynch himself.

There are three simple, but important rules: 1) This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is available to people who live or work in the Triad area only. 2) All e-mails must include a name and a picture (remember, this is for a newspaper – a picture is worth a thousand words, especially if you’re doing something crazy). 3) The final and unmovable deadline to for all submitted questions is Saturday, February 17 @ 11:59 pm.

Remember - Inland Empire premiers at on March 16, ONLY at The Carolina Theatre in Greensboro.

Subject:General opinion of locale? Housing market?
Time:07:54 pm
So, I'm considering NCSA for graduate school, and am curious what people think of the general area? How would you describe it, what do you like and dislike, etc.? Also, what's the housing market like in the area? What sort of architecture is predominant, what is the average rent for a 2-3 bedroom place, are most places complexes/apartment buildings, or townhouses and small single-family homes?

I just got my acceptance letter to NCSA, and I am estatic, but I am still wavering on the final college decision. I have some questions about general campus life. How intense is it really? I'll be in the Wig and Makeup department, if that makes a diffrence. How hard is it to get around without a car? Does anyone regret going there? Is the student body typicaly snooty, or down to earth? What are the parties like? Is it hard to get alcohol? Sorry for all the questions, I now I am being annoying, but this is such a hard decision!

How late during the day will returning college students be able to check in on Sept. 10th? The info we got mailed out conflicts with that is online, so just trying to get clarification.
